BT Games Review South Africa | Games & Sim Rig Deals

A straight look at BT Games: games, consoles, racing and flight sim gear, delivery options, who it suits, and when to check for live gaming deals.

BT Games

South African gamers usually buy from a big electronics chain or an online-only shop. BT Games sits between the two: a gaming specialist with a website and a few mall stores in Gauteng.

It is a good place to look when you want more than the latest PlayStation release. Racing wheels, flight sticks and collectables are where it stands apart.

What they do

BT Games is a specialist gaming retailer. It sells games and hardware for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC, along with controllers, headsets, keyboards, mice, storage and digital codes. It also stocks merchandise, collectables, trading cards and blind boxes.

The sim racing and flight sim sections are unusually deep for a local retailer, with brands like Next Level Racing, Playseat, Thrustmaster, Logitech and Honeycomb. The store locator lists branches at Clearwater Mall, Mall of Africa and Menlyn Park.

For deal hunting, BT Games belongs in Electronics, Games & Gadgets on The Real Deal.

What to look at first

Console Games

New releases and catalogue titles across PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. Check the platform and edition before you add to cart.
Best for: buying physical copies of new releases.

Racing Sim Gear

Wheels, pedals, cockpits and seats from Thrustmaster, Logitech, Playseat and Next Level Racing, plus full rig builds. Check that the wheel supports your console or PC.
Best for: sim racers building or upgrading a rig.

Flight Sim Gear

Yokes, throttles and flight sticks, including Honeycomb. A niche that most general stores barely touch.
Best for: PC flight sim players.

Controllers and Headsets

Spare controllers and gaming headsets from Turtle Beach, Razer and the console makers.
Best for: adding a second player or replacing worn gear.

Collectables and Trading Cards

Figures, gaming merch, trading cards and blind boxes.
Best for: gifts for gamers who already own the console.

Simple way to think about it

For a new game, BT Games is one stop in a price comparison. The same title sells at several retailers, and the site notes that online prices can differ from in-store prices.

For sim gear and accessories, it is more of a first stop. The range is wider than you will find at most general electronics stores.

Sim rigs get expensive fast, so it makes sense to scan BT Games deals on The Real Deal while you price up a setup.

What makes BT Games different

It is a gaming specialist. Everything on the site is for gamers, so the accessory and sim ranges go deeper than a general store’s gaming shelf.

The delivery options are also flexible. You can choose courier, a Pargo pickup point, a BOB Box locker or free collection from a BT Games store.

The practical bit

Shipping: Free door-to-door delivery on orders of R1,000 or more in standard areas. Smaller orders, parcels over 5kg and high-risk areas pay courier fees at checkout.
Delivery: Economy delivery takes 2 to 4 working days from dispatch, longer over December and Easter. No weekend delivery and no cash on delivery.
Returns: BT Games publishes a returns policy on the site. Read it before you open sealed games or hardware.
Support: Use the contact page and parcel tracker on btgames.co.za.

Who it’s for

This is for you if:

• You are building a racing or flight sim setup
• You want gaming accessories from a specialist
• You live near Clearwater, Mall of Africa or Menlyn and like to collect in store
• You buy gifts for gamers

Probably not for you if:

• You only want the cheapest price on one new game
• You live on a farm or in a remote area outside courier coverage
• You need delivery on a weekend

Final word

BT Games is most useful for sim gear, accessories and collectables, and a fair option for games if the price lines up. The pickup and locker options make delivery easy.
