Mr. Price Sport Review South Africa — Value Sports Kit Deals
A straight look at Mr. Price Sport in South Africa: what it stocks, where it makes sense, and where to check the price before you buy.
Mr. Price Sport
Sports retail in South Africa splits roughly two ways. There are the technical stores built around one or two big performance labels, and there are the broad value shops that kit out a whole family without emptying the account.
Mr. Price Sport sits firmly in that second camp. It is where most people start when they need gear that works and a price that does not sting.
What they do
Mr. Price Sport is a retailer, not a single brand. It stocks a mix of its own labels alongside recognisable sports and outdoor names, so you are buying across a rail rather than from one maker.
The spread covers running, gym and training, football and other team sports, plus outdoor and camping gear. Clothing, footwear and equipment all sit under one roof, aimed at everyday athletes and weekend players more than serious competitors.
It is part of the wider Mr Price Group, which shapes the value-first approach you see across the & range. For more options in this space, see Sports.
What to look at first
Gym and training kit
Shorts, tights, tops and trainers for everyday workouts, priced to be replaced without much thought.
Best for: building a basic gym wardrobe on a set budget.
Running gear
Entry and mid-level running shoes and apparel that cover regular road and park runs.
Best for: new runners and casual milers who do not need a race-day carbon plate.
Team and football
Boots, balls, replica-style tops and training kit for school and club players.
Best for: kitting out kids and social-league squads affordably.
Outdoor and camping
Tents, sleeping gear, backpacks and general outdoor bits for casual trips.
Best for: occasional campers who do not want to overspend on a first setup.
Simple way to think about it
If your main question is what a decent set of gear costs before your first paycheque of the season, this is a sensible starting point.
If you are chasing a specific technical model or the last few percent of performance, a specialist store may serve you better, though usually at a higher price.
Either way, it is worth comparing before you buy. Check the current Mr. Price Sport deals on The Real Deal at current Mr. Price Sport deals on The Real Deal to see where the price actually lands.
What makes Mr. Price Sport different
The real difference is price discipline across a broad shop. Most sports retailers make you choose between range and value; this one leans hard on keeping the everyday basics cheap.
It also spreads across the whole family and most common sports, so one trip can cover a runner, a footballer and a weekend camper. That breadth at low prices is the pull, not any single flagship product.
The trade-off is honest enough. You are not always buying the top technical tier, and the most advanced performance gear tends to live elsewhere.

Final word
Mr. Price Sport does one thing well: it gets ordinary people into working gear without a painful bill. Judge it on value and breadth, and it holds up.
Set your expectations at the everyday tier rather than the elite one, and check the price against the alternatives first. See the live Mr. Price Sport deals on The Real Deal at live Mr. Price Sport deals on The Real Deal.
